EX-RAHMAT FRIGATE

Welcome to RAHMAT FRIGATE, previously known as KD RAHMAT, she was long serving naval frigate in the Royal Malaysia Navy. although she has retired from active naval duties, RAHMAT FRIGATE remains serving as a life sized historical monument. Visitors are able to view and view experience the living and operational condition for a seagoing naval personnel.

KD RAHMAT was designed as a general purpose frigate. Ordered in 1966, she was launched on the 18 December 1967 by Puan Norhimah Jamil (wife of the the Malaysian High Commisissioner in the United Kingdom, Tan Sri Abdul Jamil Rais)

KD RAHMAT was the first Frigate designed to the requirements of the Royal Malaysian Navy. The result was a vessel that was so good, further derivatives of it were also commissioned for the Thailand Navy. KD RAHMAT was also the first ship in the region to be fitted with surface to air missile system.

A Yarrow Mark 1 frigate, KD RAHMAT was the first major purpose-built warship for the Royal Malaysian Navy. She was originally called the KD Hang Jebat, however it was believed to be inappropriate after she had a run of unfortunate events in 1970's and was renamed KD RAHMAT

(HMS Blessing).

At the time o delivery, KD RAHMAT was a class leading vessel among the South East Asian (SEA) navies. High levels of automation and a design emphasis on simplicity reduces manning requirements.

Among the firsts for SEA navies, KD RAHMAT was originally delivered in 1972 with a quadruple Sea Cat Surface to Air Missile (SAM) launcher, making the Royal Malaysian Navy one of the first navies to be SAM-equipped in SEA.

The third Bofors 40mm then replaced the outdated launcher in 1983 during a modernization re-fit where the director was also removed, thereby altering her original appearance. A McGregor hatch was installed over the well deck to serve as a helicopter flight deck.

Originally configured as an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) frigate, she was used as the navy's second training vessel in the same squadron as KD Hang Tuah untik 2004 when she was decommissioned.
